Holland & Barrett once sent me advertising close to Christmas that began with these words…
…How to avoid burn out this party season.
The advert then went on to give advice on the amount of food and drink it would be wise to consume, the need to exercise in order to counteract the excesses as well as making sure of enough sleep to
…allow your body enough time to complete its nocturnal healing regime.
They also recommended looking after my immune system in order to avoid the seasonal gifts of coughs and colds. All good advice but designed to sell products.
The Christchild of the Christmas story would not have had any of those problems brought on by excesses. He and His parents were challenged with dealing with poverty, homelessness, prejudice and being ostracised.
While some of us are enjoying parties and need the remedies that Holland & Barrett are selling others are struggling with ill health, financial crisis, homelessness. My remedy to avoid burnout this season is to go to one less party, have one less drink or whatever it takes to spare some practical support and love for those in crisis.
