Another name given to the baby Jesus was,“Prince of Peace”.
What comes to your mind when you think of peace? Is it an absence of war, a blissful silence, a lack of stress?
The Hebrew word for peace is “shalom.” Basically it means calmness, quietness, freedom from anxiety, tranquility. The root meaning of shalom is “to be whole.” Shalom describes a “state of being at ease.” It pictures a condition in which people “feel at ease or are comfortable with each other.”
It was the message that the angels sang to the shepherds, “Glory to God in the highest, Peace on earth, goodwill to all men”. That is what Jesus offers as a gift; not just for Christmas but for life.
