Caring for others
Live, Love, Learn and Laugh is the Mission Statement of the Watering Hole and the four areas we focus on in serving the community around us.
Loving and caring for others is important to us at The Watering Hole. This is one reason why we have established the Totton Random Act of Kindness Club or TOTRAK for short. We also support community initiatives as well as two charities each year (one global and one with a local connection). Below are two people in our community we would like to highlight who are raising money for specific charities.
5k Run for Life Challenge
This year we know of many people in our community who have battled with cancer and have decided to support the charity Cancer Research. Quite independently one of our young people has decided to raise money for Cancer Research by taking part in the Run for Life event here in Southampton. Recently Mollie Macleod lost two grandparents. Her grandma struggled with cancer and Mollie has decided to raise money for Cancer Research as a fitting tribute to her. Here, in her own words, is Mollie’s appeal…
I’m joining Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life this year because my Grandma suffered from cancer for nearly six years… She has been my complete rock, she has been so positive and strong about what she has gone through and I would like to do something now for her. I want to raise money to help other people with cancer get better and get treatment quicker and easier and to help find new cures. Please join the fight by digging deep and sponsoring me – it’s quick, easy and totally secure. By sponsoring me, we will beat cancer sooner.
If you would like to support Mollie in her efforts then you can follow the link to Just Giving where you can donate online in a quick and easy way. Mollie herself, admits that she is not a sporty, exercising kind of girl so a 5k run is a huge challenge so do dig deep and help make her efforts worthwhile.
Trans-America Cycle Challenge
One of the fittest members of The Watering Hole is Andy Nagel, known to many of us as “Bagel”. At the time of writing he has just begun a cycling challenge that takes him from San Francisco, California to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This is a distance of 3851 miles and will take 52 days.
Andy is cycling across America to raise money for Hope Now a charity who are working mainly with street children, orphanages and prisons in the Ukraine as well as providing healthcare there.
If you would like to support Andy in raising money for the Hope Now charity you can follow the link to his give.net page and donate securely online there.
You can follow Andy’s progress across America on Facebook where he is posting photographs and helpful maps showing his progress, speed, elevation and other stats.
