Creative Arts Community Carols
Each year the Watering Hole organises a Christmas Creative Arts extravaganza involving groups from Calmore Community. This year more people are involved than ever before. Bumble Bees Nursery, Calmore Junior School gymnastics club, REACH Puppet Team, REACH Junior Puppets, Calmore Acro Zone and Black Light Theatre are all taking part.
This year’s theme – Straw and Order – is set in a courtroom but to tell you more would spoil the story line. Suffice to say by the end of the evening you will understand more about the real reason for Christmas.
Entry to the event is FREE but as in past years refreshments will be served in aid of a good cause that the Watering Hole is supporting. This year we are helping a Testwood School pupil to raise money for a project helping people in Morocco. Megan explains in her own words what she is raising money for:
I am going on a World Challenge trip to Morocco with Testwood Sports College. World Challenge takes schools from around the world to poverty stricken areas to make a difference. Through the school expedition’s programme, we develop leadership, teamwork and decision-making skills while travelling abroad. By really engaging with another culture and a remote environment as a team we will learn new ways to deal with problems in our lives. The challenge will last for 14 days starting with a trekking phase. I will be trekking up the Atlas Mountains for 4 days camping and cooking for ourselves. This will be followed by a project phase which will last 5-7 days helping out the local community. This gives our team a chance to live and interact with local people and become familiar with the culture. We will be working to help the local area with either building schools or houses.
Come along and support those taking part at 6:00pm on Saturday 12th at Calmore Community Centre. The event takes place in Hunter’s Hall and the doors open at 5:30pm.
