Recently I wrote a blog that started with a line from the John Donne poem which read, “no man is an island unto himself”. You can read the blog here.
Just as decisions can have a negative impact, so they can have a positive impact.
Take a moment to think about decisions you have made this week. In what way have your choices made positive impacts. How have they affected your family, your business, your money, your neighbourhood?
Now think about the affect your decisions will have on future generations. What will your great grandchildren say of you? What do you want them to say? Scary thought isn’t it? Whatever our age our actions affect others. In the Bible God speaks of this impacting families and people for many years to come. His phrase is “until the third and fourth generations”.
I have come to realise that God knows my weaknesses and strengths. Rather than feeling threatened by this, I have found it quite liberating. I don’t have to pretend with Him. I can just be me and know that He will continue to love and support me whatever mistakes I might make.
The good news is that I have discovered that because of His great love for me He says that I do not have to make decisions on my own. However, God is too much of a gentlemen to force His thinking on me, I have been given the freedom of choice and I value it highly.
Don’t tell anyone, but I do have a stubborn streak in me. When someone tells me what to do, I have the overwhelming desire to do the opposite. Ring any bells with you?
When I allow God to come into my life He offers to help in my decision making process. He also works with me to help develop His great characteristics such as compassion, kindness, consideration etc. This change process then helps me become better in my decision making process. I start to think and act like He thinks and acts.
For example…
Lead with our ears, follow up with our tongues and let anger straggle in the rear
James 1:19 (The Message - a modern paraphrase of the Bible) Tweet
If only I had followed that bit of wisdom I would have kept myself out of loads of trouble.
Why not invite God into your thought processes today and let Him help you become a positive influence on the people you meet.
