The Story: A church on fire

The Story is reaching its final stages. We can divide our journey through the books of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, into three sections. The first was all about God wanting a nation He could love, properly show His character to and use as an example of what life could be like if lived with God. The second section was all about Jesus Christ, His life and His death, His teachings and interactions with people.

In chapter 28 of The Story we enter the third and final section. This is going to be the story of the early Christian church. Jesus has just gone back to heaven and His followers are feeling lost and unsure of their future. What comes next is really encouraging for us when we feel lost and unsure of the way ahead. Jesus sends His Holy Spirit to be with His followers, helping them through what will be tough times and giving them a purpose.

The part we are looking at this week is the Book of Acts  which is the second of a two-book set written by Luke.

In the Gospel of Luke spent time describing the life of Jesus and showed how much Jesus cared for people. Luke, in the Book of Acts, helps us see how God works through his followers (known as disciples or the church) to help people.

Though not perfect by any means, God uses people to help people understand more about Him and the wonderful life He has promised both now and forever.

The book of Acts helps us see all the good, the bad and the ugly of a community living in the Spirit of God in them. When working well the people in the towns and cities were amazed and a little envious of what the early Christians had as they helped each other and made sure no one was without food, clothes or work.

I wonder what the people of town see when they look at us in The Watering Hole? Do they see a group of people passionate about God, trying to follow His teachings and living lives that bless others? I hope so. As we study this chapter maybe we will get some help and inspiration to be those role models and people of blessing that Jesus intended His followers to be.
