The Story: God in the neighbourhood

God comes to the neighbourhood

Well, we finally made it into the New Testament. After 21 weeks we leave the Old Testament which deals with God’s story before Jesus came to this earth.

Many people are more comfortable with the God of the New Testament. I wonder why that is?

Could it be something to do with the fact that…

“The Word [God] became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside and out, true from start to finish.” The Gospel of John 1:14

It is easier to identify with someone you can see. It is easier to identify with someone who was born as a baby and faced situations growing up just like us.

I have discovered in the Bible narrative of Jesus time on earth several reasons for Him coming here are explained. They start to make some sense of this “upper story” or the bigger picture of God and this planet that we have been talking about for the last 21 weeks.

Jesus not only came so we could getter a better picture of God; so that we might identify with Him. We will see over the next few weeks that there are other reasons why Jesus was born as a baby, grew up and lived for 33 years before being put to death and finally returning to heaven alive.

Why not spend the next month reading the book of Mark which tells us so much about Jesus and the things He got up to. You will also get insights into His character by reading chapters 22-24 of The Story. Understanding who Jesus is and what He wants to do for, through and with us is so important that we will stay with these chapters till the end of August.

I hope that during this time you will really get to meet with Jesus and invite Him permanently into your lives. I know when I gave Him that invitation my life changed for the better and now I cannot imagine my life without Him.
