The Story: Lest We Forget
They say, “absence makes the heart grow fonder” but I am not so sure. I think it makes it easier for me to forget. Imagine how horrible it is for someone suffering the onset of dementia; forgetting spouse, children and close friends! We want to be remembered. We tie knots in hankies, write on hands, circle dates on calendars, set alarms and ask PA’s to remind us of those all important dates.
Coming to the end of His time here on earth Jesus also wants desperately to be remembered by His children, not out of vanity but because He wants us never to forget what He did for us and He too knows that all too often it is “out of sight out of mind”.
For that reason He gave us a special way to remember Him; especially to remember He died on the cross for us. Each time we come to a Communion Service, we are reminded of His death and all that it can mean to us.
This week we are going to be holding our own Communion Service. By taking part in it each individual is saying to Jesus,
I want to benefit from Your death and resurrection, I don’t want to forget what my mistakes cost You, Lord Jesus.
It is a time of celebration that God’s upper story – to get the world back from the grip of Satan, has been accomplished. Jesus’ plan is on target and He has won the battle over the evil one on our behalf – an exciting development as the story of how He saves us continues to unfold in the pages of The Story.
