Today our blog is written by guest blogger Lynette Allcock who poses the question “Where is home for you?”
Lynette is a blogger and broadcaster from Watford and is also niece to Rosemary Lethbridge, leader of The Watering Hole. She has taught English as a foreign language to students in Asia and to Brazilians in the UK and was a student herself in the USA.
I have a hard time answering this question. And I can’t imagine what it would be like to live in the same place all your life. Due to my dad’s work, I moved around fairly often growing up; the longest I’ve stayed in one place is seven years. So when I think of home, I think of the people I love instead.
Home is about me feeling loved, feeling like I belong with someone, rather than a physical location. But to be honest, the people I love are scattered all over the world. Many that I have felt most at home with are oceans away. That’s hard, sometimes.
In the moments I feel homesick for that sense of belonging and community, or I’m frustrated at not being able to pin a location as “home” like “everybody else,” I think of the stories of the Bible’s faith heroes who often felt like (or were) foreigners and nomads. Paul writes,
They were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

For those of us who feel out of place here at times, there is something coming where we can truly belong.
We are looking forward to the new heavens and the new earth he has promised, a world filled with God's righteousness

Look, God's home is now among his people! He will live with them and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever

How you you define home?
